Beyond War Agreements
In the early 80s Beyond war sent teams, from its main office in Palo Alto, California, to key cities across the country to begin to build a movement to end war. The idea was to build consensus around several ideas and a set of "agreements".
War is Obsolete: because of nuclear weapons we face a choice - end war or become extinct.
"The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophe." Albert Einstein 1946
We Are One: The change in the way we think must involve shifting our identification, from nation or ethnic group to the whole of humanity, indeed to all of life. The way to this shift is embodied in the agreements.
Agreements:
I will resolve conflict. I will not use violence.
I will maintain a spirit of good will. I will not preoccupy myself with an enemy.
I will work with others to build a world beyond war.
